Embalming
Embalming, Viewing and Death Interstate or Overseas.
- Embalming is simply chemical treatment in order to disinfect and preserve the human body. The process is usually only required if there is an extended period of time between death and the funeral, or if the deceased is to be transferred overseas. In most circumstances, embalming is not necessary.
- Viewing the deceased is a decision that only each individual is able to make. It is right to take time to sit with deceased allowing a time of reflection and personal goodbyes. Having said that it is also right to not view the deceased and to remember them as they were.
- Death Interstate has become a more common situation. Should you encounter this situation, you should contact us and we will advise you on the various options available. This may involve an essential care or simple funeral service interstate followed by a memorial service at home, or alternately, the repatriation of the deceased allowing a full funeral service at home. Whatever the decision, we will be able to help you with all the arrangements and, as a member of the Australian Funeral Directors Association, liaise with reputable firms interstate.
- Death Overseas or the repatriation of someone to their homeland, provides pretty much the same options and decisions as a death interstate. It will however, also include the involvement of various Australian Government Departments as well as the Consulate General of the country in question. All of these arrangements are carried out by the funeral director.
